In Product as well as other areas of business and technology, Models compete for the attention of management. Authors, analysts, and consultants tout the competitive advantage to be gained from using their Model over alternatives.
When a particular Model becomes accepted practice, companies often use a static, or 'cookie-cutter' implementation. As you pointed out, there's a tendency to even cite excerpts from the model as gospel.
But conditions with business and users is dynamic, so we need to adapt how we apply a Model to fit current conditions, and we need to be able to explain why the adapted approach is better!
